Who This Is (and isn’t) For
This course is for you if:
You know SEO matters, but you don’t know where to start, or what’s actually worth your time
You’ve “optimized” things before and saw little to no results
You don’t have the budget for an agency (or you’re not ready to hand over the keys)
You want to make changes with confidence, backed by real data, not guesses
You’d rather move slowly and intentionally than chase trends and hacks
This course is not for you if:
You want overnight results (SEO is a slow burn — annoying, but effective)
You want someone to do the work for you
You’re hoping there’s a plugin or checklist that magically fixes everything
This is DIY — but it’s DIY with a compass, not a blindfold.
What You’ll Walk Away With
This isn’t about learning everything there is to know about SEO.
It’s about knowing enough to make good decisions.
By the end of the audit, you’ll have:
A clear picture of what’s helping (and hurting) your search visibility
A short, prioritized list of fixes that actually matter
A realistic 30/60/90-day action plan, not a never-ending to-do list
A simple system for tracking progress so you’re not guessing
The confidence to stop researching and start fixing
You won’t just “know more about SEO.” You’ll know what to do next.
What Makes This Different
This course wasn’t thrown together in a weekend.
It’s the exact audit process I use with clients, refined over years of:
testing what actually moves the needle
working within real-world constraints (time, budget, energy)
separating signal from noise across different industries
watching what doesn’t work just as often as what does
I’ve pulled everything into one place so you don’t have to:
read outdated blog posts from 2017
follow contradictory advice
or pay thousands for an audit you don’t fully understand
All tools used in this course are free.
All recommendations are intentional.
And everything is designed to help you make steady, sustainable progress, not panic-fueled changes.
What This Replaces
Before you decide if this is worth it, here’s what the DIY SEO Audit is designed to replace:
Endless SEO blog posts with conflicting advice
Watching videos that make you feel productive but don’t lead to action
Guessing which fixes matter and which ones are a waste of time
Paying $3,000+ for an audit you don’t fully understand or can’t maintain
Wondering whether SEO is “working” or if you’re just spinning your wheels
Instead of chasing best practices, you’ll have your data, your site, and a plan that makes sense for your business.
What You’ll Do Inside This DIY SEO Audit
This isn’t “watch a video and feel accomplished.”
It’s a process, but a manageable one.
Inside the DIY SEO Audit, you’ll work through a clear framework that helps you:
1. Set up your data (required)
We’ll make sure Google Search Console and GA4 are properly set up and connected so you’re working with real information — not assumptions.
If you do nothing else, do this part.
2. Fix the foundation first
Using free tools, you’ll identify common technical and on-page issues that quietly drag sites down, including:
slow pages
messy headings
missing titles and meta descriptions
broken links and redirects
oversized images and unnecessary bloat
(Search engines read your site like a book. If the structure is a mess, they don’t “get it.”)
3. Check content quality (without keyword stuffing)
You’ll learn how to:
align pages with what people are actually searching for
avoid writing content that sounds robotic or forced
prevent keyword cannibalization (multiple pages competing for the same topic)
4. Audit links and off-page signals (without getting scammed)
You’ll understand the difference between:
internal links
outbound links
external backlinks
…and how to spot red flags before they become problems.
5. Optional: Local SEO (if you serve a local audience)
Google Business Profile setup, NAP consistency, and local basics, plus a realistic heads-up about spam calls (annoying, but normal).
6. Identify opportunities and track progress
Using GSC and GA4 (with blinders on because we’re not becoming analytics experts), you’ll find:
quick wins (already ranking on page 2)
intent mismatches (ranking for the wrong thing)
content gaps you should own
7. Turn it into a real 30/60/90-day plan
At the end, you’ll have:
a plain-language summary of what you found
a prioritized action plan
your Top 3 moves, so you don’t try to fix 48 things at once

A Quick Reality Check About SEO
SEO is a long game.
Most of the time, results show up in weeks or months, not days.
You might even see a dip before things improve, especially after cleanups or content changes.
That doesn’t mean you failed.
It means Google is reprocessing your site.
The goal of this audit isn’t perfection, it’s intentional progress.
SEO is one of the few marketing channels that can keep working for you long after the initial effort. A well-structured site with helpful content becomes a long-term asset, not a recurring expense.
FAQs about this course
You don’t need paid SEO tools

Additional FAQs:
-
This is for small business owners who know SEO matters, but don’t have time to wade through endless advice (or pay someone else to handle it). If you’re willing to follow a clear process, make a few updates, and track progress over time, you’ll get a lot out of this.
-
If you want overnight results, a magic plugin, or a done-for-you solution, this won’t be your favorite thing. SEO is a long game, and this is built for people who are ready to do the work (without turning it into a second job).
-
You’ll walk away with:
a clear understanding of what’s helping or hurting your SEO
a prioritized fix list (not a 48-item panic spiral)
keyword and content opportunities you can actually act on
a simple 30/60/90-day plan you can repeat
-
Because I started Boondock Consulting with a pretty specific goal: help small businesses grow sustainably without charging corporate (aka “normal agency”) rates. Most small business owners don't need full time marketing support, and might not have the budget to invest in fractional support.
They need a clear plan, honest guidance, and a way to make progress without hiring a full team.
This course is my way of providing support at scale. I can keep it affordable and genuinely helpful without working 10-hour days, 7 days a week, and without forcing myself to charge agency pricing to the clients I provide implementation support for. It’s a niche offer for a niche audience, and that’s intentional. I’d rather build something sustainable for both of us than crank prices just because that’s what the industry expects.
It allows me to provide something for everyone, at the most affordable rates I can, while keeping my own business model sustainable and not burning myself out.
-
For the initial audit? Most people can complete the core audit (not the implementation) in 4–6 hours, spread across a few sessions. If you’re short on time, you can still get a lot of value by doing Access + Setup and tackling a handful of high-impact fixes.
The time it takes for implementation will vary depending on the size and overall health of your website.
Real results can take up to 6 months, but I typically see shifts in the first 30-60-day period post-implementation.
-
Nope. This is a “hub” format and you can jump to what you need.
That said: Access + Setup is the one non-negotiable because it gets your data collecting. After that, go in order for the full picture, or skip around based on what’s most urgent. -
No. All core tools used in this audit are free.
If you’ve been putting off SEO because tools feel expensive, you’re in the right place.
-
Yes! Some of the tools used will look overwhelming (because they are), but you only need a few key reports for this audit. The goal isn’t to become an analyst. It’s to make sure the tools are set up so you can track progress and make decisions based on reality.
-
SEO usually takes months, not days. In some cases, you may see quick wins–especially if you fix obvious issues like missing titles, slow pages, or messy structure. But in general, SEO is about building a sustainable foundation that keeps paying off over time.

You can certainly utilize AI for guidance on auditing your site, keyword suggestions, competitor research, and more. The key is you have to know what to ask, how to ask it, and, most importantly, how to fact check results.
I use AI for various tasks. It is wrong a lot. Remember that AI is only as good as the prompt it receives and the sources it cites from.
This course helps fast track through the research, the prompt, and the fact checking. Follow the steps. Prioritize the work. And then, sure, use AI to help out with some other things like content idea generation, product research, or campaign outlines.
-
Not yet. There are many YouTube channels out there you can find to help you through these processes. I personally learn better by reading instructions instead of watching videos and pausing, switching screens, going back to timestamps, and re-watching. If you learn better from video instruction, this course is not for you.
However, I do plan on adding very basic short videos for specific workflows in the future. But I’m a small business and don’t have time for that yet. 🙂

I offer refunds for all tiers if requested within 7 days of purchase, or prior to any scheduled calls.
The Backcountry Support monthly subscription can be canceled at any time, but note you will lose access to the audit content unless you switch to the SEO Compass.
The Guided Traverse subscription can be canceled within 7 days of purchase if we haven’t completed a consultation call yet. After 7 days, you can cancel any time after 3 months. This is due to the time I invest in consultation calls and reporting setup for your website.
-
No, but I offer refunds for all tiers if requested within 7 days of purchase.
-
Because the free tools are more than enough for a small business owner auditing one website, and agency tools are wildly more efficient when you’re managing SEO at scale.
For this DIY audit, I intentionally stick to free tools because they’re reliable, beginner-friendly, and cost exactly $0. They’ll tell you what you need to know and you just have to piece it together across a few platforms.
When you move into the Guided Traverse tier, I offer a monthly check with the same “agency-level” tools I use for client work to review your site and pull cleaner, faster insights. Those platforms don’t magically invent data, but they do make it easier to see patterns, track changes, and measure progress in one place instead of bouncing between 4–5 dashboards.
Also: those tools typically cost $300–$500/month, which is honestly ridiculous for one small business website.
If you want that level of reporting without paying enterprise software prices, Guided Traverse is the workaround. You get the benefits of the tools plus the monthly review and support baked into the tier.
I’m already paying for the tool, so why should you?
-
That can happen, especially after major updates or cleanup work. A short-term dip doesn’t automatically mean something went wrong. Sometimes it’s part of Google reprocessing your site. We cover what to watch (and when to worry) inside the course.
-
The SEO Compass tier includes evergreen self-serve course access. The higher tiers add support and/or consultation so you can get unstuck, prioritize faster, and feel confident you’re focusing on the right things.
And yes, if you start with the SEO Compass and decide you want more support, you can upgrade.
-
No. That’s part of the DIY part. 😉
But if you decide you want support with implementation, I offer free Discovery calls and we can discuss a package that includes website implementation.
-
Nope. SEO works the same regardless of what platform your website is built on. However, some platforms require much more work and maintenance to keep things optimized (Wordpress is an example).
-
Yes. I consider this course a living document and I will be adding content and making updates as I’m able or as necessary.
You will be notified via email when significant updates are made.
-
Yes! I truly believe SEO is the first step to a sustainable business, so that’s why I chose this as my first course.
I’m planning a full marketing audit course in the near future, and a more in-depth analytics and reporting course.
-
No. Paid ads management (Meta, Google, Bing, LinkedIn, etc.) strategy changes on a monthly basis. Sometimes even weekly. It would not be sustainable for me to update course material in a timely manner to keep up with the changes.
If you’re interested in a consultation on your paid ads campaigns or would like to chat about paid ads management, I offer free Discovery calls and would be more than happy to discuss!
-
If you have a blog you want to monetize (or already have), you should already have some foundational knowledge of SEO, so this course may be too basic for you.
However, If you’re just starting a blog and are looking to get your website set up properly, this course is a good start.
I do not deep-dive into building out a blog for monetization in this course. However, if you would like support with the strategy behind building out your blog, I would suggest my Guided Traverse Tier, which includes monthly consultations, reporting, and a review of your website with agency-level SEO software.
